“Operation Hardhat” Results in Over 1,000 Traffic Tickets | What to Know

Last week, on December 3rd, New York State Governor Cuomo announced the results of “Operation Hardhat,” which was an initiative taken to help ensure the safety of construction workers on New York State’s thruways. In all, law enforcement issues 1,779 traffic tickers from July through November on Thruway-operated work zones.

The majority of the tickets issued were for speeding and cell phone violations. There were 618 speeding tickets issued and 297 cell phone violations. Both of these offenses can have very serious ramifications. If you received either of these tickets, you will most likely receive points on your license which will cause insurance premiums to rise, and if you have already accumulated a certain amount of points on your license over a certain period of time, you may even receive a license suspension. For this very reason, you should hire a New York State traffic violations attorney who can help defend you from these charges.

There were also 187 seatbelt violations, 141 failure to move over tickets, 17 failure to obey traffic control device tickets, 2 failure to obey flagger tickets, 1 DWI, and 516 additional violations issued during “Operation Hardhat.”

For law enforcement and construction workers on NY thruways, the program was a success. However, if you have been issued a ticket, this is not necessarily the case. DMV Commissioner and Chair of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Mark J.F. Schroeder, remarked on the success of the operation, “The results of this year’s Operation Hard Hat mobilization underscore the importance of this enforcement campaign. Highway workers put their lives on the line so that the rest of us have access to safe roads and bridges. We owe it to them to drive safely in work zones so they can do their essential jobs and get back home to their families each night.”

That being said, the bottom line is that if you have recently been issued a traffic violation as a result of Operation Hardhat or otherwise, it is in your best interests to retain the services of an experienced Rockland County traffic violations attorney to learn more about how we can help you fight your charges.
